Haut Brion ist der einzige 1.Cru classé der Klassifizierung in 1855 ausserhalb des Médoc. Sein Terroir ist vergleichbar mit dem von Latour. Haut Brion ist der nobelste aller Weine aus Pessac-Léognan, ohne Anspruch auf die Rolle des konzentriertesten Weines zu erheben. Seine große Altersfähigkeit gilt als unvergleichlich, seine seidene Tanninstruktur als genial.

Big, velvety colour, less backward than La Mission, rather thicker and showing a certain over-ripe concentration on the nose, florality shows on the palate, wonderfully ripe and succulent fruit, but perhaps lacking the grip of La Mission. At the upper end of 4 stars. Decanter Award.

Sehr gutes Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, in der Nase verschlossen, schwarze Kirschen, Weichseln, zarte Dörrfruchtanklänge, am Gaumen süß und elegant, dichte Tanninpackung, tolle Finesse, ein Wein mit enormer Ausstrahlung, im Finish Kaffee und Röstaromen, angenehme Bitterschokolade im Rückgeschmack. Besticht durch eine überzeugende Länge.

Angular, with hard tannin, medium body, and sweet plums as well as currants, this 2002 is harder and tougher-textured than from barrel. Like many 2002s, it is reserved and angular at present. It remains to be seen whether it will flesh out and reveal more charm and succulence. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
